Veterinary decision support - not a diagnosis. Wisevet helps a registered veterinary professional or a veterinary student structure their own clinical reasoning about an animal patient. It does not diagnose, prescribe, or recommend treatment, and it is not a substitute for clinical examination, training, or judgement. Every diagnostic and treatment decision remains the responsibility of the attending registered veterinary surgeon.

What Wisevet is for

Wisevet is a clinical-reasoning support and learning tool. You describe a case, it asks one question at a time in the order of the problem-based method (history, exam, define the problem, body system, mechanism), and, when you ask for them, it presents a list of differential diagnoses, the causes you must not miss, and clinical tests for you to choose from. It is for animal patients only. It has no human medical purpose.

Who it is for

  • Registered veterinary professionals (for example veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses).
  • Veterinary students, for learning. A decision about a real patient must be made by, or under the supervision of, a registered veterinary surgeon.

It is not for animal owners or the public, and it must never be used to make decisions about human health. When you first use Wisevet you confirm which of the two you are. The rules of your veterinary regulator (for example the RCVS in the UK, or your state or territory veterinary board in Australia) and of your practice or university still apply to how you use it.

How Hoot works - and what is and is not signed

Hoot presents; you decide. Hoot is an AI assistant built on an AI model (Anthropic's Claude); Hoot presents each next question with short answers to choose from. Nothing moves on until you choose an answer and commit it. When you ask for them, it presents differentials, a can't-miss list and clinical tests as options. The Hoot never decides anything: every decision is yours. You can also type your own answer or a question of your own; Hoot does not answer clinical questions directly, it replies with a question that moves the walk forward.

Generated by an AI, and unsigned. That output is not written, checked, signed or cited by a veterinarian, and it can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Where Dr. Marc Simpson's signed library covers the problem, Hoot is given it to follow, and an item is marked signed only when it matches an item in that library. Everything else is marked Hoot-added. Some signed problems are still awaiting senior clinical review; the Methodology page lists the status of each.

You put the differentials in your order. Hoot presents the differentials for you to drag into your own order and confirm, and your confirmed order is the one on record. The order shown before you confirm is not a probability and not a decision. You also choose which clinical tests to do; Hoot only lists them. If you tap Unsure on a question, Hoot (the AI assistant) suggests clinical tests or imaging that could help progress the diagnostic work-up, and you decide whether to add them to your plan.

Software rules check every Hoot turn - the order of the method, one question at a time, no diagnosis named before the list, and no treatment, drug or dose. These checks reduce errors; they do not guarantee that the output is correct or that it never mentions treatment. Please tell us if it does.

What Wisevet is not

  • It does not diagnose and does not recommend a treatment, drug or dose.
  • It is not for use on people, and gives no health advice about people, including zoonotic risk to owners.
  • It is not a substitute for examining the patient, for your training, or for your judgement.
  • It is not your clinical record. Please do not rely on it as the only record of a case.

Wisevet is designed, offered and described only for animals and for veterinary decision support and education. It is not designed, marketed or assessed as a medical device for people, and no regulator has approved or assessed it.

Independence and credit

The problem-based framework it follows is that of Jill E. Maddison, Clinical Reasoning in Veterinary Practice, Wisevet is an independent tool. It is not endorsed by, or affiliated with, the author or publisher of that book, and taking part in testing does not imply endorsement. The clinical content is not reproduced from the book.

Beta software

Wisevet is in active beta and is provided “as is”. Features may change, the service may be unavailable at times, and data may be reset during the beta. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under consumer law (including the Australian Consumer Law and, where it applies, the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015), or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.

What we collect

  • Your account details: name and email address, and whether you confirmed you are a veterinary professional or a student.
  • The clinical reasoning you enter into a case (presenting problems, history and exam findings you select, your answers, your order of the differentials, the clinical tests you chose and notes) and the questions and lists Hoot generated for it.
  • Feedback you submit, and basic technical logs needed to run and secure the service.

Please do not enter personal information about owners or clients (names, addresses, contact details) or about yourself in case text. Wisevet is built around the clinical problem, not the client record.

How your data is used, stored and sent

We use your data to run your account and give you the service (which is our lawful basis for account and case data under UK GDPR and the Australian Privacy Principles), and, for feedback and technical logs, to keep the service secure and improve it. We do not sell your data or share it for advertising.

The free text you enter is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate the questions and lists; it is not used to train Anthropic's models. Data is stored with our hosting provider, Railway. Both may process data outside the UK and Australia, including in the United States; where they do, we rely on the safeguards in their data-processing terms. Your case history is private to your account.

Case data is kept until you delete it. Data may be reset during the beta.

Your rights and choices

You can delete individual cases, or all of your cases, from your home screen. You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, or delete your account and its data, and you can object to how it is used. Email drmarcsimpson@gmail.com. If you are in the UK you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); if you are in Australia, to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

Testing and feedback

Wisevet is being tested by veterinary professionals and veterinary students. Feedback you send may be used to improve the tool. Taking part in testing does not mean anyone endorses Wisevet.
